The waning of the African food crisis was the primary factor influencing the distribution of WFP Food Aid last year. I will give you a quick overview of some of the highlights of our accomplishments and, I hope, anticipate some of your questions about our activities. You have before you a comprehensive report on WFP'S activities and new inititatives last year. Secondly, we reached an all-time high in pledges to the Programme's regular resources-more than $ 1.1 billion for the 1985/86 biennium.Īnd thirdly, we undertook the first management review in nearly 20 years-a review we are now using to reorganize and to concentrate even more energy and more resources on our work in the field.
Looking back, three achievements in particular come to mind:įirstly, we shipped more food in one year than ever before-over 2.2 millions tons.
